Abstract

In this Master’s Thesis, the behaviour of joints in precast concrete elements related to precast segmental box girders with external prestressing was investigated. The relevant experimental and design background for joints with shear keys was analysed. Furthermore, an analytical approach was used to describe the general behaviour of a precast segmental bridge with external prestressing and to evaluate the shear resistance of the keyed joints.
The findings showed, that there are relevant differences between design concepts and experimental investigations, indicating that further investigations of the compression stress state within the joints are required. The shear resistance of keyed joints within precast segmental bridges with external prestressing depends on the level of prestressing and the loads. This influences whether the joints are decompressed and the shear resistance of the joints declines.
